Musical Theatre Program (10-21 years old)

The students of the Musical Theatre Program at Special Gifts Theatre meet during the school year. Presently, our season runs from September through mid-March. Currently there are no programs offered during the summer, although this may be considered in the future. Depending upon the chronological and developmental ages of the child, they are appropriately placed into a class where they can achieve their maximum potential. Students are evaluated by our professional staff, to determine placement and appropriateness of the program. In an effort to build personal and artistic self-confidence, the atmosphere is kept low-pressure and non-competitive.

Most students meet once a week for 25 weeks, which culminates in a fully mounted musical theatre production, complete with sets, costumes and props. Generally, students meet on a Tuesday or Wednesday at the Skokie School, Winnetka, IL. Classes meet weekly for 1 hour and 15 minutes and begin at 4:15 pm.

Classes for students of all ages and abilities offer an array of theater and acting techniques and activities. These classes allow individuals the opportunity to sharpen their communication skills and find new ways to express themselves.

Our ultimate goal is to create specific opportunities for the children and teens with and without special needs to work together. Mainstreaming is encouraged whenever students developed the appropriate social and artistic skills necessary to succeed.
